I walked by this California Poppy on a beach on the central coast of California, and it jumped out at me as a perfect candidate for the Flower Essences™ series. Bathed in direct late morning sun, it seems to reflect that Sunshine right back to the viewer.

I buried the focus deep in the center of the flower, below the stamens. This gives an almost burning sense, like the center of the sun. The shadows of the stamens from the direct light also add to this affect. The stem and leaves of the flower are in turn softened, transforming their wrought, angular, green geometry into a supporting character, which lends a sense of upward rotational energy. The focus also tempers the texture of the petals, while maintaining the orange striations of rays spreading outward on top of their iridescent yellow base. It just feels like Sunshine to me.
