This is an example in the Bee Moments series where the photo focuses on something kind of like a bee, but not really a bee. It’s a Bee Fly. One of the giveaways is its long proboscis, like that of a humming bird, just Sippin’ away at the flower’s nectar. The scene is a quintessential Bee-like Moment that begged to be memorialized.

The out of focus background, with its hinted at leaves on the right provide a nice cavas, against which a Dwarf Golden Aster shines out past the edges. While the focal plane of the photo, biased slightly to the lower left, leads your eye directly to our friend the Bee Fly sitting on a slightly out of focus petal Sippin’ away. With its monochromic coloration and brightness versus the yellow of the flower, it pops to the forefront of the composition.

This piece is all about relaxing. The rich, luxurious yellows of the flower would add warmth to any family room, living room or breakfast area. While the muted greens and browns of the background will easily play nicely with any decor from light soft woods, to leathers, to darker hardwoods. And while your lingering at the table or sinking deeper in your favorite chair  before you lift your mug or cocktail glass, catch a nod from your friend the Bee Fly as it sits Sippin’ and Chillin’ Out.
