This is a case in the Flower Essences series, where the shot and flower are in perfect harmony. Whether interpreted as Basking in the sun, or actually emanating the sun back to the viewer, this Wooly Cinquefoil just typifies sun kissed to me.

In composing the photo I wanted to pay homage to the fact that these flowers are seldom found individually, so I let a couple of blurred buds swing the viewer’s eye in from the upper right third of the photo to the left third where our fully open flower sits. I also shot at an angled focus plane with very shallow depth of field, and focused on the tips of the center pistols and adjacent stamens of the flower. All this makes them sort of sparkle and iridesce in the light, while providing a buttery finish to the surround petals. It also allows us to see the sharp shadows cast on the lower and left portions of the flower, reinforcing the sun drenched motif.
