The Flower Essences series shows off the true nature of a wildflower within its surroundings. So how might a Butterweed Flower be a Timekeeper? From a distance, it appears to be a single flower. But close up, you are treated to the numerous flowers, in various states of bloom, arranged like a dial around a slightly larger flower in the center. 

I chose this particular Butterweed because of its perfectly timed symmetry. A larger central flower anchors, while 8 other flowers, each at a cardinal point of a quarter or eighth of an hour, provide movement in their various states of bloom. This movement is accentuated by a very shallow depth of field focused on the lower stamens of the central flower, which in turn cause an undulating focal affect around the other “numbered” flowers, Finally, the background of a fallen tree with the stems of other Butterweed combine to create even more movement in the composition. 

This fine art photo’s bright sophistication makes it perfect keystone piece for any living room, family room, or kitchen. Soft greens combine with a blurred tree bark to create a complimentary color pallet for any communal space. While the slight pop of green at each flower’s base pushes bright yellow cheer out to the viewer. The Butterweed’s final role, with its centuries posted at the eight axials, is that of Timekeeper. It reminds us that we never know if our time with those who share these spaces is at its Beginning, Middle, or End.
