This presentation of a German Bearded Iris falls squarely in what one would expect to see in the Flower Essences series. That’s because I shot it such that the elegance and softness of the flower’s sensibility were upheld, while not revealing too much of what lay behind its exterior trappings.   

The focus on the flower is pulled just forward of the front most petals to accentuate their delicacy and the intersecting curvature of their movement. This along with a very shallow depth of field helps obscure the interior of the flower. The receding petals are also soften and sculpted by the sunlight providing transitions of intense lilac too lightly painted lavender. Finally, I pushed the composition toward the flower obscuring much of the trace deep green of its surroundings, to place even more focus on the simple flowing lines. All this combines to make this German Bearded Iris feel somewhat Flirtations.

Perfect for a bedroom, power room, or private oasis, this print’s soft curvature and color will undoubtedly sooth. But to the astute observer, the print’s lines and softly obscured layers show a Flirtatious side hinting of What More Might Be. Only you can decide if and what is to be revealed over time.
