Caught in the Act
In my Bee Moments series, I try to capture bees within the context of a particular moment. The strong visual tension that could occur from viewing this print though, may cause you to feel less cuddly toward these tiny wonders. Rest assured, the photographer was not harmed by said bee while taking the photo.
This scene invites us to get down on ground level, and peer through deeply hued blades of grass, to observe its focus — a Sweat Bee coved in pollen. I love how the pollen almost obscures the white and black stripes that tip off the type of bee, which we snuck up on.
The soft whites and bright yellows of the newly bloomed Daisy provide a focal point that highlight the bee. While the glint of the bee’s eye stares through the spring grass back at us. With a small lump in your throat, you’re forced to ask the question. Did we catch the bee in the act of loading up on pollen? Or, did the bee catch us sneaking up on it.
Whether it’s the focal point of room whose pallet is soft greens and yellows, or a transitional piece in a hallway, stairway or foyer that asks the question of every passer by. Find a place in your home where you need a reminder to exhale with a smile, as the interplay of Who Caught Whom in the Act unfolds, but is never answered.
