Don’t Bee IT!
Don’t Bee IT! is a children’s picture book written by me, Kevin Cloughley, which follows anthropomorphized bees through a contentious game of tag.
Playing tag with your friends is supposed to be fun. But when an excluded bee is again the last to call, “Not IT.” She poisons the game for every bee involved. This odd bee out must choose to change, or risk loosing her friends, and being completely cut out of their game.
Don’t Bee IT! is a unique property in the children’s picture book space, because it is also illustrated with distinctive photos of actual bees taken and edited by me. The photos convey the action of the story in a manner never before experienced, which provides the opportunity for children reading it to form a different relationship with a dwindling creature our lives literally depend upon.
Don’t Bee IT! has been part of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Michelle Begley Mentorship Program, and the Big Sur Children’s Writing Workshop, and is currently being queried for representation.
